Why seek Couple Therapy?
Research into adult love offers us both a new understanding of relationships and a way to help couples heal their wounds and grow closer together. When we work with couples, we use an approach called Emotionally Focused Therapy. Founded by Dr. Sue Johnson, emotionally focused therapy draws on the new science of adult love and bonding which explains relationship distress in terms of our hard-wired need to feel closely connected to one another.
In any intimate partnership, it is essential that both partners feel they can rely on each other in times of emotional need. When this fundamental need for emotional connection is threatened, we tend to respond in predictable patterns, resulting in the familiar dances of distress. EFT offers a map for repairing the emotional bond between partners, helping you feel more connected and cared for by your partner and able to trust that they’re there for you.
Through more than 25 years of research, Emotionally-Focused Therapy has outlined how to repair and heal the underlying cause of couples' distress. It has become one of the most widely researched and successful approaches to couples therapy. According to The International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy, 70-75% of couples who go through EFT move from distress to recovery and approximately 90% show significant improvements. EFT has proven effective with couples facing a wide range of problems including depression, post-traumatic stress syndrome, and chronic illness.

Couples caught in a repetitive cycle of arguing or distancing often feel as though they are doomed to repeat the same steps, helpless to avoid feeling further apart despite wanting to be closer. There is hope!
